ELEANOR MARTENS August 23, 1935 - February 4, 2006 With family by her side, at Bethesda Hospital, Eleanor Martens (nee Kornelsen) went to be with her Lord and Saviour. Ellie was born in Morris and grew up in the Rosenort/Riverside area. After attending Cloverplains school she worked a number of years as a Kjaakjsche for her older brothers and sisters. She married Alvin Loewen when she was 19 and had a family of four children. When Alvin passed away in 1970, she suddenly became a full time farmer in addition to her full time mothering responsibilities. In 1991, she married Abe Martens and moved to Jantsied. She became a partner and helpmate to Abe and together they shared a vibrant life running a farm and integrating into the active Kleefeld social scene. Family left to cherish her memory are her husband Abe; her four children, Stuart (Cindy), Wendy (Chris), Charles (Susan) and Earl (Shelly); her three step-sons, Rob (Peggy), Gary (Pat), and Paul (Shirley); and 17 grandchildren. The funeral service for Ellie will be held on February 9, at the Rosenort EMC at 2:00 p.m. with interment at the church cemetery. Viewing will be held at the Steinbach Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 8, from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
